Why Investing in Designer Bags is Worth It

Why Investing in Designer Bags is Worth It
Whether you’re a longtime luxury lover, like to admire from afar or are just curious about the world of designer; there is truly something for everyone to love.
As a co-founder of I AM LUXURY, I myself fell head over heels for luxury through my love of handbags. That love has slowly grown into sunglasses, jewelry and some travel items. But, I’ve always stayed loyal to the handbag!
Aside from the rich backstory of iconic brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermes and the list goes on; the items that you see in the department stores and on the runway are truly mesmerizing to look at.
But the big con or caveat is the hefty price tag. So what makes investing in designer worth it? Most of us are aware of the dupes, fakes, and replicas. So let’s talk about it. Here is a breakdown of the long-term value of luxury bags, and how they can be a smart investment.

Price increases:

Like with shopping luxury, price increases are both a pro and con within itself. Whether for adjusting for inflation or simply to make the item more exclusive, brands such as Louis Vuitton but more notably Chanel, will often increase the cost of their sold items on a yearly or even quarterly basis.
This can mean that if you buy a handbag from these brands now, by the time you might want to sell the item 10 years down the road; the handbag will increase in value so much that you might even end up getting more than you paid for it.

Resale market trends:

It’s also a well known fact that the resale market for luxury goods is at an all time high (cough cough, shop I AM LUXURY.) Essentially, you will get a closer margin of what you paid for a Dior bag than you would a Coach bag or fashion bag. This is good news for luxury lovers. It can offer a bit more peace of mind knowing that designer bags lose a smaller percentage of their value compared to some of these other brands.

Intentional shopping:

While it is true that as a whole, items from designer brands tend to hold their value better than mid-luxury items; not all brands or purses are created equal. For example, you are much more likely to get more of a return on investment for a Chanel classic flap than say a vintage Miu Miu. So if you want to be absolutely sure of your luxury purchase, it’s a good idea to do some research on what the item on your wishlist is going for in-store as well as on the resale market in order to pull the trigger. But, if your budget can afford it; when in doubt you can never go wrong with a Birkin! (a girl can dream)

Plain old preference:

At the end of the day, it’s really up to you on whether splurging for a designer item is worth it. Everyone has their own opinions about buying into the fakes (legal stuff aside). It really depends on if you are comfortable with spending the price tag. For myself, I’ve always seen and felt the quality difference between the real thing and the replica. With having the authentic, I often find myself extremely happy and proud to wear my designer dinner purses out or even traveling with a preloved beach tote. Ultimately, the key is to wait, do your research, and see if your mind doesn’t waver over time. For many luxury lovers, myself included, it really comes down to a feeling of complete admiration for the world of designer. And whether it’s today or tomorrow, sometimes you just can’t shake the feeling of wanting to own an iconic piece of your very own.
And while it can seem like such a steep investment: there are always discounts, sales, payment plans and several other options to look into so that you can buy with ease of mind. You can always rest easy knowing that I AM LUXURY has you covered, if and when you ever decide to treat yourself to a little luxury.
